I Believe In Our Freedom

Every night when we go to bed,
we're safe and secure and rather well fed.
We get to vote and have a say,
in all that goes on in our lives, each day.

We wear what we want, and read what we please,
and have a choice, when we pray on our knees.
We're free to be educated, both woman and man,
and pursue all our dreams, just because, we can.

Our children grow up with every possibility,
of reaching their stars, as far as they see.
And if we're not happy, we can stand up and fight.
We get to speak out, it's our God given right.

With all the diversity of race in our nation,
we stood up together, against unjust allegations,
and extended our hands to the victims of hate,
because we need each other. That is our fate.

All the world over, people want to live here,
because in their countries, they're oppressed by fear.
But we are free as the eagles, who take wing in flight.
Lady Liberty stands proudly, shining her light,
beckoning all those who choose to live better.
We've learned that we must, all work together.

We have all these freedoms that others are denied,
because we owe a debt to those who have died.
They fought with conviction and laid down their lives.
Our future is free because they paid the price.

My son's in the army, he carries on the tradition,
of improving the American, and human condition.
It never will fail, each time I see our flag fly,
that my eyes will fill up, with tears of great pride.
I won't let the fallen, ever be forgotten,
and for those who serve, I'll always respect them.

So on this, our Independance Day,
let's bow our heads, join hands and pray,
that our loving Father will continue to bless,
our efforts to help those, worldwide, who have less.

Look to the heavens and hold your head, proud.
Put your hand on your heart, and sing out loud.
May that Star Spangled Banner, forever still wave.
I'll believe in our freedom, till I go to my grave.
So if you should feel, the same way that I do,
show your true colors. Fly the red, white and blue.

------- Author's Notes -------

I actually wrote this several years ago as an announcement for the grocery store that I worked at. Not my best effort, but it was timely for the holiday. Happy 4th to all. Please take a moment to pray for all those who are in harms way.
