I Tried

Lord, I tried to pretend,
That you did not exist.
Stubborn hearts do not bend,
When they let pride persist.

I wanted to be free,
From judgment of my deeds.
To live only for me,
And tend to my own needs.

I tried to turn my back,
Even ignored your voice.
But couldn’t stay on track,
When you gave me the choice.

Doubt was like a cancer,
Growing inside of me.
Science had no answer,
Of how we came to be.

I was growing weary,
With unproved points of view.
Needing more than theory,
To show me what is true.

So I thought of nothing,
And what its meaning holds.
Then I thought of something,
And what my sight beholds.

I reached a conclusion,
About eternity.
Let go of the delusions,
Of this reality.

Nothing begets nothing,
That is all there would be.
But if there is something,
Then people must agree,

It must have always been,
For something to exist.
What is did not begin,
As scientists insist.

The truth is all we’ve got,
When all the theories fail.
There’s nothing, or there’s not,
The facts are what prevail.

And if I can discern,
Between two trains of thought,
Deducing as I learn,
What is and what is not,

How could I not conclude,
That sentience could be,
Of greater magnitude,
Than what my thoughts can see?

No matter how I tried,
To follow different clues,
The facts can’t be denied,
Logic can’t be excused.

There’s more than just a chance;
The evidence is rife,
That more than circumstance,
Gave me the breath of life.

Though I don’t understand,
What purpose there would be,
To craft with your own hand,
A tiny speck like me.

I’m forever grateful;
You made me from the dust.
I’ll try to stay faithful,
And not betray your trust.

I will always recall,
How I was not denied.
You wouldn’t let me fall,
No matter how I tried.
