Verse 1:

He packed his bags,
Told our kids goodbye,
Said to be strong,
Asked them not to cry
No matter what, mom and dad still love you.

He kissed them both
And I felt a tear
Roll down my cheek,
As he held them near
And said I wish we knew what else to do.

Pre-Chorus 1:

So they hugged him tight
And whispered in his ear
Things will be alright
Daddy don’t you fear.

Chorus:

They said it doesn’t matter where you are,
Just make a wish upon a falling star.
And if it really means that much to you,
Then maybe God will make your wish come true.

Verse 2:

That Christmas Eve
I knew in my heart,
I couldn’t live
While we were apart.
He is the only man I’ll ever love.

My little girl
Listened at my door,
She saw my tears
Falling on the floor.
She smiled and pointed at the sky above.

Pre-Chorus 2:

Then she hugged me tight
And whispered in my ear
Things will be alright
Mommy don’t you fear.

Chorus:

She said it doesn’t matter where you are,
Just make a wish upon a falling star.
And if it really means that much to you,
Then maybe God will make your wish come true.

Refrain:

So I looked up to heaven
And wished upon a star.
I asked for a miracle,
To bless us from afar.

And at that very moment,
He called me on the phone,
He told me that he missed me,
And he was coming home.

Chorus:

You know it doesn’t matter where you are,
Just make a wish upon a falling star.
And if it really means that much to you,
Then maybe God will make your wish come true.

Can't keep eyes dry.

This touching poem recalls when I was 6. After a marital squabble, my father got in the car and started down the road, leaving us. I tried to run after him, but soon the little green car passed over a hilltop, and was gone. To me, the world was gone, but happily, he came back next day.
It isn't often that I am so touched by a poem. To say the least, it's a good write.

WOW!!

What a beautiful song! I would love to hear how it sounds with music.
