To those who stand before God’s throne
Eager to testify,
To all the kindness in their hearts,
When it may not apply;

You might, perhaps, look closer at
The times you failed to show,
Thanks to those who wait on you,
Wherever you may go.

The maid who cleans your towels and sheets,
The waitress serving meals,
The bartender who makes your drinks,
The bellhop at your heels.

Attending to your every need,
In silent stewardship;
Unnoticed by a thankless heart,
That could not leave a tip.

Whatever good you think you’ve done,
By this, will be obscured,
The nature of the truth will see
That justice is insured.

The ways of man seem right to him,
Despite what he imparts.
He weighs intent against the deed,
While Jesus weighs the heart.

For that is where the truth is found,
It beats within the breast.
As it peels away our armor,
And strips us of our crest.

No secrets will remain concealed,
No selfish goals disguised.
Our every deed will be exposed,
So none will be surprised.

And it shall be the little things,
That loudly testify,
To what is really in your heart,
Such actions never lie.

The one who shows no thankfulness,
For those who live to serve,
Will face the justice of his deeds,
And reap what he deserves.

Belief cannot conceal a lie,
The Lord knows what is true.
Consider this gratuity,
A tip from me, to you.

Thank you for writing this!

Mark, thank you for writing this! I'm a waitress myself, and the restaurant I work for won't let us add our tip to the bill. I can't tell you how many times customers stiff us on the tip. It happens daily. I think everyone should read this poem!
