Domestic Disturbance

Deep notes on violins are playing music of sin
Visions of green meadow grass tossed by the wind
Her body lays stretched out, beautifully tense
The violins sing faster- foretelling disaster
A voice whispers softly, "What can be the matter?"
Her soft blue eyes avoid the man who's standing close by
Confusion, pain, and guilt almost drown her inside
The violins sing slowly as the visions are showing
The darkness of night then nearing- a faded glowing light
A house of pain, I fear, is where we are going
It's sturdy foundation has held up for years
But a house can't protect you from broken-hearted tears
The man moves slowly towards the woman and hurdles a cry,
You've hurt me so deeply with no reason why!
For your lack of consideration, you will now die!!"
The woman sits upright and looks emotionslessly at the man
Desperately he screams, "Do you understand?!"
The woman says nothing, dead to his rage
And lays down slowly, facing his way
He falls to the floor, weak from his pain
And begins drifting from all that is sane
The sadistic violins sing quickly in a happy way
The woman looks down at the man, wishing him well
They've entered damnation, bringing upon their own hell

------- Author's Notes -------

This poem is meant to create a vision for the reader. A vision with violins painted in the background as the reader gets an outside look at a couple who has lost their souls to domestic abuse. Imagine a woman beaten day after day and turns for one night to a man who is not her husband, and seeks refuge in his bed. And then, like a beaten, yet loyal dog, returns to the man that beats her, knowing the consequences. This is not a new story. Unless you experience it first hand, it is hard to realize how competely cut out of the world people are when they live a life of constant violence and abuse. Often domestic abuse is hidden so well that people only get a glimpse of it. It is hard to explain how passionate domestic violence is, how strong the anger can feel, how nothing else is seen anymore after awhile. Violence overwhelms family and consumes them entirely. Families with violence live in their own sad world and remain till someone intervenes or they die.
