This chilling memorandum from a ghost
confirms his presence as an unruly host
with a fierce resistance because you stay
and pray for the light of another day!

--

The county gallows once stood here
but time hasn't suppressed superstition and fear
where the bodies would drop then silently sway
and still twist in the wind to this very day.

--

Abandoned dance hall on the edge of town.
A lonesome wallflower still wears a frown.
A young man chose someone else instead.
To this day he carries his bloody head!

--

After the morning recess they sounded the alarm
when a tall dark stranger grabbed her arm
but this little girl remains at school
in ghostly pursuit of the golden rule.

--

Alarming voices have filled my head
and I am a prisoner of their dread
to hear what tortured souls have said
as a switchboard operator for the dead.
