What Needs To Be Said..

I just can't believe how easy you forget
The laughs, the tears, the light kisses on your neck
It seemed like just yesterday your head rested on my chest
My heart was your lullaby as you lay down to rest

One week was enough to realize you were the one
Week two was a bonus, not believing how lucky I had become
"You're too good to be true" you whispered in my ear
While in my mind it was the words I've waited years to hear

This is it now, I've finally gotten it all right
Excited, emotional, almost wanting to cry
Could this be it? Could this be love in my heart?
Perhaps my mind had simply taken a head start

At the airport gates now as we say our goodbye's
"I love you, I love you!" I wanted to scream from inside
But as we stood there, not knowing what will be
My heart was already with you, as I promised it would be

A year down the road now and we no longer speak
I look back on our time as I wipe the tears from my cheek
As I promised you before, I'll promise you again
My heart is still with you, from now till the end..

------- Author's Notes -------

It's been a while since I wrote any poetry, but this was something I needed to get off my chest for a while. This was a summer "love" that I could never let go
