Forgotten Thoughts

It's time for me to let it all out
The pain, the heartbreak, the feelings of doubt
I've tried my best to keep it all inside
But the time has come for you to realize

That I broke my own promise and made a mistake
A promise to never let myself end up in this way
Because I gave you my all, my everything, let down my guard
My judgment was clouded by my emotions from the start

I should have known that it was too good to be true
Everything I've ever wanted was there within you
So I let myself be fooled by a false sense of content
A feeling I should have known what it really meant

A temporary illusion that life had turned around
That the dark days ahead of me were never to be found
That the time had finally come for me to be happy
That the old me was pessimistic, thinking irrationally

But I guess I should have known better by now
My life is a constant disappointment, no matter how
I try to be the best person that I can
But this world obviously isn't made for this type of man

I now find myself second guessing my own identity
No longer blaming the world for making us a dying entity
Call me egotistic, call me self centered
But the fact is, I know myself better than any other

I won't change for you, I won't change for them
I am the last of a dying breed, a breed of good men
So to all who judge and say that I am wrong
Perhaps you are right and it's been that way all along...

------- Author's Notes -------

I find myself second guessing my place in this world.
