Late Summer Clarity

The cooling late summer day refreshes
Taking a break from the over heated daze
Bringing clarity to my mind
Relaxing to the thoughts

Much more able to face the daily realities
For what it is worth, and what it will be
I slip away for some much needed me time
Where my mind can roam free

I breathe in the sweet wild jasmine
Intoxicating, the scent fills my head
Picking a flowering end and lacing it into my hair
I remind myself of a long ago flower child

I go back to a time when freedom felt free
A time when parks were alive with children's laughter
When love was a way of life
And everyday held a bit of time for fun

I smile and relent to those feelings
Holding them close for a while
I move on to the creek where the water flows
Where the breeze in the trees knew my name

I again listen to the babbling of the water
Flowing over each stone along it's path
Moving over and around the unmoving
Not forcing it from it's place, each co-existing

I breathe deep the scent of the fallen leaves
The fresh dirt made from the past seasons
I cool my feet in the water
I wish I could remain here forever

But I must reopen my eyes to today
Where only the scent of jasmine remains
A hypnotic memory of the bygone time and place
I reopen my eyes to the cool, late summer day
