Dad

It’s true you weren’t the greatest dad
who ever walked the Earth.
But I know you’ve always loved me,
Since the time of my birth.

You weren’t always there for me,
And yes, I took that hard.
And sometimes when you were angry,
Your words left my spirit scarred.

But let’s not dwell on negatives,
That is not all we had.
There were times when you truly shined,
And you were the greatest dad.

I remember when you taught me
The things I didn’t know.
Like how to ride a bicycle,
How to catch and how to throw.

All the times you took us camping,
And taught us how to fish.
The times we got to spend with you,
Were more than a child could wish.

I know you think of your mistakes,
And they might make you sad.
But I don’t think I would trade you,
For any other dad.
