The Pursuit

Harkin to my voice, as I reveal my story.
Of the long pursuit of a most elusive quarry.

I wandered alone, when, at first, I did embark.
Through this wilderness, looming ominous and dark.

I thought to turn back on more than one occasion.
For my quarry was a master of evasion.

He led me in circles, though I remained wary,
He would prove to be a crafty adversary.

But I was determined, this time I would not fail.
I would follow His tracks, until I did prevail.

It was quite a chase but I knew I was winning.
The trail I followed led back to the beginning.

And that is where I found Him, waiting there for me.
He’d prepared a table beneath a shady tree.

He told me I’d done well, my choices, quite astute.
I asked why He’d lead me, on such a long pursuit.

“My child I’ve never moved, I’ve been here all along.
Twas you who wandered from this place where you belong.”

“I wouldn’t leave you, no matter how far you roam.
But you must make the choice, to follow the way home.”

I said, these years I’ve wasted make my heart grow sad.
Pursuing the one thing that I already had.

He touched my shoulder and said, “You needn’t feel blue.
Each one of my children have wandered off like you.”

“While I wait patiently, and hope they find the tracks,
that I have left for them, to show them the way back.”

“Back to the beginning, where their journey did start.
In pursuit of what will fill the void in their heart.”

And so I’ve come full circle, back to where I belong.
To discover what I’d searched for, was mine all along.
