The Prophet And The Preacher

Matthias was a preacher
who knew the scriptures well.
He told folks to follow him,
and he’d save them from Hell.

One night while working late,
A man entered the church.
He appeared to be homeless,
And on some kind of search.

Matthias welcomed the man,
With a smile on his face.
Said, if you seek salvation,
You’ve come to the right place.

This house of God is Holy,
And I minister his word.
Just put your soul in my hands,
Feel it soar like a bird!

If you’ve been plagued by questions,
They’ll prove a simple task.
I hold a degree in this,
You only have to ask.

Then the man starred right through him,
And he began to pray.
Said, did I hear correctly,
In what I heard you say?

You said this house was Holy,
Yet only God is that.
While He who knows the answers,
Is the Son whom He begat.

The degree that you have earned,
Was in the schools of man.
But the heart was God’s classroom,
Since this journey began.

You decide what is the truth,
While you push God aside.
Those, with whom you disagree,
You censor or deride.

The path that leads to Heaven
Is one we walk alone.
How can you show me my way,
When you don’t know your own?

Matthias became angry,
Said, I’d like you to leave.
You can’t come into my house
Telling me what to believe.

Very well said the stranger,
You have asked me to depart.
But remember what I’ve said,
Let it grow in your heart.

When He turned and waved goodbye,
There were scars on His hands.
Matthias saw him smile and say;
“Your Father understands.”
