A Missed Flight

My alarm clock didn't wake me,
And I arrived a bit too late.
My flight had left without me,
For the next, I'd have to wait.

I strolled over to the bar,
To watch the news while I waited.
But nothing could prepare me
For what the anchorwoman stated.

The people in the airport
Began to gather around.
We all watched in horror,
As our hearts began to pound.

American flight eleven,
Hit a Trade Center tower.
And on the busy streets below,
Debris began to shower.

I gasped at what happened next,
When I saw the second plane!
Horror filled my mind and soul,
Were these animals insane?

There were people in those buildings!
There were passengers and crew!
What reason could there be for this?!
God please tell me it's not true!

When the next hit the Pentagon,
There were gasps from the crowd.
Tears and screams soon erupted,
We began praying aloud.

Then the south tower crumbled,
With all those people trapped inside!
And as the second tower fell,
Hundreds more people died.

And then we all went silent,
Starring on in disbelief.
Trying hard, to no avail,
To hide our anguish and grief.

I'm still haunted by that morning,
Not sure why I'm still alive.
The flight that I missed that day
Was United, Flight One Seventy Five.

V Close!!

Oh! That was pretty close. Good God, you missed it. If it really did happen to you, I can imagine how it would be to miss death when it was so near and imminent. Don;t forget your alarm clock.!!
