The Soldiers Lament
10 August, 2003

In the course of war some people die.
None who survive ever wonder why.

It was our duty, and we were prepared.
It was a fate we all could have shared.

Some of my brothers, in that war, fell.
Some survived, though condemned to hell.

Burdened by memories that haunt their dreams,
Unable to quiet the bombs nor silence the screams.

So as you lay sleeping safe in your bed.
Know, on the battle field another soldier lay dead.
And while you are out laying down in the street,
That soldier in the field lay covered in a sheet.

But when you throw rocks and rail them with names,
As you search for a scapegoat for to lay the blame.
Understand it is they with the courage to fight.
And it was their blood that earned you that right.

For our Soldiers, active and retired.......

This poem is dedicated to our Soldiers, active and retired. And to those who never came home.
