If Jesus Were Just A Prophet

If Jesus were just a prophet,
Then I need some things explained.

Like the steadfast dedication,
Of disciples who remained.
After their Lord was crucified,
They went on to spread his word,

To carry on what’s proven false,
To the death, sounds too absurd.

But die they did, we can’t deny,
A fate they met without fear.

For the promise Jesus gave them,
That many refuse to hear.

And what about the prophesies
Fulfilled by this Nazarene,

The odds of meeting eight of them?
One in a trillion times fifteen.

About those ancient documents,
That survived unto this day?

Among the oldest of their kind,
Why did they not decay?

How did this Christianity
Spread throughout all of the Earth?

When it had such opposition,
And such a precarious birth?

If Jesus were just a prophet,
Would the world still be the same?

Could the human race have come so far,
If we never knew his name?

------- Author's Notes -------

This poem addresses questions most non-believers can't answer. Some will say "I don't have to answer your questions because Jesus never existed." Yet the ancient documents that speak of his existence are older and more numerous than for any other religious deity or icon. The gospel of Mark, as he was the scribe of Peter, is believed to have been written between six and thirty years of the
resurrection. Its doubtful, in that short time, the story could become convoluted or blown out of proportion. Knowing how dedicated to detail these people were back then, I doubt there was much recorded that wasn't an actual account. Eye witnesses were still alive and dedicating their lives to testifying to the events their eyes and ears had witnessed. Eleven of the twelve disciples were tortured and then killed. They went to their deaths proclaiming Jesus name, and asking Him to receive their souls into heaven. If they knew he never rose or perhaps never died, why would their last words continue to perpetuate a lie?

The answer to that one is all around you!

My grandfather used to tell me stories about life back in the thirties and forties. You could leave your doors unlocked, and if you forgot to close your door, it would be closed by the first person who noticed it was open. People respected one another, and helped whenever and wherever it was needed. But as Jesus is pushed further and further out of our lives, society falls farther and farther into the pits of disrespect and immorality. In our schools, we teach our children about homosexuality, as if a person's bedroom practices have anything to do with education! I personally don't care if you wanna sleep with a yak! I just don't NEED to hear about it! I certainly don't want it taught to my kids! God is removed from our schools because He offends too many people! Teaching homosexuality to our children offends quite a lot of people as well! Is that removed from our schools? Hell no! I know, there are a number of homosexuals who have children. I just have this funny feeling that there are probably a few more strait people with children in our public schools. A good number of them follow one religion or another. Yet, if they want their kids to learn about God and not homosexuality, they have to send them to private schools. I believe a person has a right to love whoever they like. I just don't think my kids need to hear about it! As God is pushed out, violence, immorality and crime increases. Without God, without the teachings of Jesus, how far will we fall? What kind of world will our kids inherit?

Good point Justus.

I too believe people have a right to be with whoever they like. I love my wife and am proud that she loves me. However, I am not going to force you to accept she and I as a couple. I'm not going to tell you, just because I am a man and she is a woman, just because our relationship pleases us, that you have to believe in it too. I can tell you why we love each other, and give you the facts, but whether you accept or don't accept is entirely up to you. The same applies to Jesus, and to God. I can give you the information, what you do with it is your choice. All I ask is that you conceder my subject of debate and TRY to answer the questions posed in this poem. If you can't debate the subject, you need to ask yourself why. If you can, wouldn't you love to put me in my place? I'd just hate to see anyone make the wrong choice. There are two baskets, one represents the no consequence perspective. That's where we either go to sleep and never wake up, or we keep coming back until we get it right. Under that philosophy Adolph Hitler can eventually share the same rewards as Mother Theresa. That's the basket that so many are putting all their eggs into. While the other basket, the basket of consequences for your actions, they leave empty. I choose to put all of my eggs in that basket. If the bottom falls out, I'm still OK. If I put all of my eggs in the other basket and the bottom falls out, how OK would I be then? I just don't want to see that happen to anyone.

Boy I'm pickin' the wrong subjects!

Wow I should write something like this! The readers ran for the hills. They probably took one look at the subject matter and didn't even read it. So it looks like it's just you and me Rev.

You have made some very strong points. Asked hard questions to answer. No wonder no one's responding! I like it! Keep it up Rev.

I believe the lord is in all us.

I beleive that each and everyone of us knows the lord, that he exist, most of us heard about him as children when some parents would actually, dump us off at church just to get us out of their hair. A lot of us as children, enjoyed church, we met and made new friends and had fun, while God was everywhere around us, then we went back home. I also believe that many of us know God exist, but we have not spoken with him in so long that some of us, when he hear his word, don't know what to say. However, we know, most of us know, he is there, everywhere. I do speak with him and I know he hears me, I ask for help and I find it, often I'm told, the help I need is within myself. He is the ultimate survivor and we can also be, but we do have to try, its not a free pass just because we say, we know he exist. If, it has been a while since you spoke with him and have forgotten how, start off with, Dear Lord, he will do the rest, even if, we are lost in the hills, he will hear us, if we try.

Thanks Mark & Justus
