The Gentleman
15 January, 2003

vinebar

Woe to the gentleman, abandoned to his fate.
In this modern world, his arrival comes too late.

For the scoundrel now abides here, 'tis he who wins the day.
Capturing the lady's heart with his wild and wicked ways.

His promise of excitement will be her souvenir,
while she will be a trophy to endear him to his peers.

The gentleman can only watch, and he doesn't understand.
Each time he's tried to save her, she refused to take his hand.

She says he's not exciting, she tells him he's a bore.
She wants another scoundrel, like the one she had before.

So he hangs up his armor, his sword he locks away.
He dons another mantle that will help him win the day.

He sweeps the lady off her feet, and the world can only mourn.
With the passing of the gentleman, a scoundrel is reborn.

I have to get back to WORK, stop writting Mark, stop!

I don't know what it is, your words are so meaningful. I'm an amature poet, know it now, "you" have shown it. I think you also, are a romatic, I think that because of how you express your thoughts with words. Not an easy task for some of us. So, elegant and sincere, peircing, actually.

Your work (I say work, you make it read as if, its so easy to do}Its a Word of Art, best I have ever read, but don't get high, I work more than I read! Your work is so easy, so very easy, for me to understand and become part of. You have more than ability, you know how to use words that bring forth a life not only to those who read them, but within your subject. At least, that is what you do for me.

I know you have some more work I have not read and I refuse to, I have to get back to work But THANK YOU!

If, you ever published a book of your work, I'll buy the first copy as long as you "promise" to sign it. You have a future as a "Will Become Known, poet."

Happy to meet you!

Martin

know what you mean. in a sence. yes the gentleman are 'gone' like chivary and all that. for instencts i remember watching this movie besazzel i belive it was. where there um the guy was all sensative and very caring for the girl. and the girl said to him that she loved him oh so much. but she just also just wanted a guy who would call her bitch and just act like they listen to her rant and blah blah blah you know what i mean.. well this poem reminded me of that. or like chivary its all gone now. back in the day men could go to women and say to them that they look nice in that dress ... now MOST women would be disgusted and call the man a perv.

those are only a few things that i thought about after reading your pome.

The scoundrel usually shapeshifts and hides the fact of what he is, but with time the facade is too difficult to uphold and carry. The trouble is: there are too few gentlemen, and too many scoudrels who come in the guise of light. Good poem!
