Love Streams

It lights up my life when we have nights like tonight,
Your sweet little face, staring me straight in the eyes
I'm brushing your hair back from your face,
As we're reading a story, imagining your favorite place,
Has it been all that long, how'd you get so big so fast?
I still remember holding you in my arms,
Wishing the moment could last
Here it is, seven years later and still,
You're the light in my eye, you're my love, you're my will
You're my every reason, you're in every thought of my days
You keep me dreaming, even when I'm caught and can't see my way
A lot has happened to us, with me not there now, and mom gone
But through it all, you haven't been scared somehow,
You've been the one to keep strong
I wish Mom could see you, read to you, and be with you like this
I wish she could still cuddle with you and give that goodnight kiss
We both know she's watching, and whispering goodnight
And just by looking in your eyes, I know things will be all right
I'll always stand in front of you when you're scared,
or be your sidekick through things
I'll always listen, I'll always care, I'll always be here when you ring
Looking at you now, sleeping in innocent sound
Remembering mom's words, "Family is where love is found"
I creep off your bed, let you sleep in your dreams
We're going to be all right baby, We've got love in our streams

To Shan

What a beautifully written poem. I loved it from start to finish. How time passes so quickly, it's moments like these that keep us going.... I hope you show this poem to your child one day
