One Flew Over The Cuckoo Nest

What’s inside a troubled mind what makes a lunatic?
What’s the thing that makes them mad also makes them sick?
What sets them apart what shows the feeling of happiness or sad?
What inner cog will turn around teach them the good from bad?

Why lock them up because they are not like the rest of us?
Then take them out for all to see on day trips on a bus
Why put them there behind steel bars with madness in their mind?
Why we treat them so, so bad why can’t we be kind?

Alienate the sick and weary send them off to care
Don’t worry for them they are sick because ‘they are not all there’
Turn away don’t look at them when you can see them plead
Pretend you don’t see them in there only hour of need

Sometimes it just takes simple things to bring the madness sane
Just a welcome ear, a friendly chat, can make the madness tame
A troubled mind doesn’t mean we are locked in chains forever
In fact if you sit down with us you’ll see we’re very clever

What gives you the right to say we’re mad, what gives you the right?
Just because we see strange things and cry alone at night
Who says we’re the mental ones? Maybe friend its you.
Maybe you are mad, I am sane, maybe that’s what’s true.

You’ve seen the films you’ve watched TV you might of read a book
So now you are an expert on just how we the mad should look
One flew over the cuckoo nest is how you rate the mind
Open your brain and listen to me its amazing what you’ll find

Those who suffer the chains of wrath wrapped around their head
Can hear you, see you, feel the pain were suffering not dead
Don’t judge us because were not like you don’t judge us due to lack
Best of all don’t turn around we might shoot you in the back

I liked your poem and I agree there are so many people ignorant to mental illness and they label and treat people bad. Anyway, keep up the good work!
