My Author

How can a man hide his thoughts from God?
He knows every aching of my heart.
I am an open book to the Lord.
And He’s been my author from the start.

I praise Him by doing what He asks.
In private, I tell Him how I feel.
Feelings that I share with only Him.
‘Tis He who knows if my love is real.

If I shout my love for God to you,
While the lessons He shared are ignored,
Is that the way His praise should be sung?
Is that giving glory to the Lord?

Does MY opinion hold such power?
Do MY feelings truly praise His name?
Whose words should I really be speaking?
What does the Lord want me to proclaim?

If I speak boldly from the rooftops,
Should I seize the opportunity,
To say how much love I have for God,
Or speak the message He shared with me?

Is my personal relationship
Meant to be laid out for all to see?
If my words make you think I’m Holy,
What is God supposed to think of me?

He is my author, He writes my life.
I’m a single page, only a breath.
It’s the message He has imparted,
That will continue beyond my death.

So any praise that I share with you,
Is not meant to gain your love, for me.
It will glorify the word of God.
Even if you choose to disagree.
